GETTING SUMMER READY

GETTING SUMMER READY

THE SUN IS WARM. THE DAYS ARE LONG. SUMMER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, AND THAT MEANS IT'S TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT UPPING YOUR FITNESS AND NUTRITION GAME...

Depending on how much damage you've done over the long winter months, and depending on what your ultimate goal is, how long you need to hit your targets is like asking how long a skipping rope is.

We've all seen the plans that suggest you can get beach ready in 2 weeks - and although that sounds good on the surface, those methods and tactics just aren't sustainable in the long run. It's better - if you can - to take a longer approach, and look for gradual, but consistent progress.

In reality you should be looking at a month - but keeping on op of things is a much better approach.

If you haven't been keeping on top of things, then now is the time to get back on the horse - or bike...Start with some cardio and basic strength training, and try to vary your activities to get back in the rhythm of things, and avoid burn out.

The next thing to do is to make some changes to your diet - and the changes won't surprise you. Get more fruits and vegetables, try and eat more lean proteins than fatty proteins, and try changing up the carbs for more wholemeal: brown bread, wholemeal pasta, brown rice.

Within a few weeks you should start to notice a difference; just remember to track your progress, and amend and adapt until you find the path that works best for you.
