Diindolylmethane (otherwise known as DIM) is a compound created when your body breaks down indole-3-carbinol, which you get in your diet from eating cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.

At a base level DIM seems to be responsible for balancing oestrogen levels in your body, or, more specifically, stimulate the production of a more beneficial form of oestrogen known as 2-hydroxyestrogen which inhibits production of other forms of oestrogen, as well as inhibiting aromatase which converts testosterone to oestrogen.

It is thought that this is has some anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as aiding in weight loss.

The hormonal balance brought on through DIM can have significant potential benefits, particularly when it comes to weight loss through inhibiting formation of fat cells and stimulating the breakdown of fats. However there are also other potential benefits in correcting oestrogen imbalances in men, relieving the symptoms of PMS, and treating hormonal acne.

DIM is also often thought to help fight cancer by preventing the growth and spread of cancer cells (particularly for breast and prostate cancer).
