Cluster Dextrin® Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin: NOW WITH MORE CARBS! Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin (HBCD) is classed as a ‘high molecular weight’ carbohydrate. This means that it possesses low stomach ‘osmolality’ which in turn allows for fast gastric-emptying, thereby delivering a fast-acting and yet sustained carb fuel source to maintain blood glucose levels during physical exercise.
Although emptied from the stomach rapidly, high molecular starches are also very large, so they need to by hydrolysed into free glucose by digestive enzymes in the small intestine before they are absorbed into the blood stream.
This property makes Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin an ideal carb source, with none of the potential to ‘crash’ (hypoglycaemia) as we may do from using fast-acting maltodextrin or dextrose pre-training or during a 'stop-start' competitive event. Alson, Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin will not inhibit lipolysis (metabolisation of body fat) during exercise.
Why 'only' 30.17g of HBCD per serving? We have been questioned why WORKOUT FOOD 'only' delivers 31g of HBCD per serving, when certain 'gurus' suggest doses of intra-training carbs up to 150g! The fact is, they are involving synthetic 'intra-traininn insulin usage in these recomendations!! The amount of HCBD in WORKOUT FOOD (30.17g per 61g serving) is actually more than enough. Ideally, one needs carbs intra workout when muscle is responsive to (carb) intake independent of insulin via GLUT 4 - i.e doesn’t interfere with fat oxidation. A-Alpha Ketoglutarate: A-Alpha Ketoglutarate is regularly promoted as a powerful NO (Nitric Oxide) stimulator that not only increases NO levels instantly but sustains levels of new Nitric Oxide production over a period of time.
Nitric Oxide is an important cellular signalling molecule that plays a key role in vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and blood flow to working muscles during intense physical exertion, thus delivering more amino acids & nutrients to those muscles. A-AKG is also often referred to as being a ‘cell volumiser’ enhancing the ‘pump’ of muscles during contractive types of weight training.
L-Glutamine: L-Glutamine, when consumed during physical activity up-regulates protein sythesis and L-Leucine uptake to the working muscles. Supplementing with L-Glutamine has also shown to prevent depletion of blood serum glutamine levels in extended (1-2 hours plus) of intense exercise and is linked to an increase in physical perfromance by decreasing ammonia in these situations.
Advanced Technology iBCAAs (instantised Branched Chain Amino Acids): Branched Chain Amino Acids, when consumed around the ‘training window’ are considered to be ‘anti-catabolic’ in that they provide a protective ‘buffer’ between the working muscle tissue and the body’s requirement for fuel to power that session or sporting activity.

Leucine plays a huge role in maximising anabolic-response and the up-regulation of protein by the body. Iso-Leucine increases glucose uptake and the usage of glucose during exercise. Citrulline Malate: L-Citrulline is a dietary supplement associated with sports performance and cardiovascular health. Published articles state the functions of Citrulline include lactic acid buffering properties, as well as a reduction in fatigue and promotion of endurance in intense exercise, and this applies to both aerobic and anaerobic activity. L-Cituline also increases Nitric Oxide (NO) production during exercise.
HICA (a-Hydroxyisocaproic Acid): HICA (also known as Leucic Acid or Alpha Hydroxyisocaporic Acid) is an anti-catabolic metabolite of the amino acid L-Leucine and has been demonstrated in studies published by the International Society of Sports Nutrition (2010) to aid in muscular gains, an increase in physical performance and a reduction in DOMS (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness).
Glycine: Glycine is a neurotransmitter that can support stimulatory response in the brain and is also promoted as supporting glucose uptake to aid in greater and extended physical performance. Glycine has also been shown to ‘prime’ the body for increased insulin release and also to improve creatine uptake.

Directions For Use:
As a guide Mix 1-2 scoops (30.5g/61g) as required in a minimum of 600ml of water (1 scoop serving) or 1ltr of water (2 scoop serving) and consume throughout your training session or competitive event
Notes On Consumption: Swirl rather than shake to mix WORKOUT FOOD. Swirl the shaker cup or vessel a number of times during consumption. Start to consume around 15 minutes prior to your session or competition and continue to do so periodically during your activity
